| The Sunnyside Families, Youth & Individuals Resident of Public & Federally Assisted Housing Empowerment Initiative (Sunnyside-FYI!) |
| A program that targets residents of public and federally assisted, low-income housing (a) limit and deter incidents of violent crimes and drug offenses among them and their families, (b) obtain desirable skills that promote achievable self-sufficiency and economic gain and (c) experience social opportunities that are currently considered unobtainable due to social/economic barriers. Currently there are 38 individuals participating in the program. |

| Sunnyside's Intelligent, Able and Motivated Youth Group (I. A.M. Youth!) |
| A successful, comprehensive mentoring and community service program for neighborhood youth, ages 12-18; who are disadvantaged and/or high-risk, that draws on/from and expands resources currently offered by the local community; incorporating extra curricula and civic activities with life-skills and leadership training; that demonstrates sustainable, positive results overtime. Members of the youth group meet weekly and are required to complete at least eight hours of community service within the Sunnyside neighborhood monthly. Currently there are 30 youth participating in the group. |

| Sasha Barreras, 13, has been a Sunnyside I. A.M. Youth! Member for the last five years. She is now a peer leader and helps the group select activities. I am interested in my community, and I want it to be a better place, Barreras said, adding that I. A.M. helps children live well and become contributing members and possible leaders in the community. | The Sunnyside Opportunities created through Job, Career and basic Life-skills Training Program |
| (The Sunnyside One-Stop) |
| The Sunnyside One-Stop is neighborhood Employment & Skills Training Center that offers a residents a wide-range of employment-related services including; access to a computer lab for resume and cover letter preparation, internet access for employment/education-related purposes, local area job listings (hard copy), major employers applications, telephone, fax machine and copier, occupational assessments, computerized testing and basic computer skills training, weekly self-sufficiency and skills building workshops, weekly job search and employability workshops, Adult Basic Education/GED classes and referrals to other community agencies for additional services (Sunnyside One-Stop activities include the Sunnyside/Community-wide Job Fair and the Sunnyside Employer Showcase). As of February 2006, over 1,117 individuals have utilized the Sunnyside One-Stop for computer/life-skills training and employment related purposes. |

| Toni Johnson has been a stay-at-home mom for nine years. Now as she's ready to re-enter the work force. But the task of finding a good job "one that pays a livable wage" after nearly a decade without working is a little daunting, she said. Johnson, said communication is the area she needs to refresh. I'm a confident person, I believe in the skills I have already. But everything I have I can improve. The One-Stop has helped, she's been at the program one week working on building her skills and writing a professional resume "one that's actually gotten me a interview, Johnson said. | The Growth & Empowerment Neighborhood Initiative for Strengthening the Individual Success of eX-felons (GENISIS-X) |
| The goal of the GENISIS-X Initiative is to assist individuals returning to the Sunnyside and/or Southside neighborhood on probation/parole gain important basic computer and employment (job) skills needed to reach positive goals that will eventually lead to (long-term) self-sufficiency in their neighborhood. Currently there are 22 individuals participating in the program (program started in November 2005). |

| Dennis is working out well. I have started him (Dennis) at a higher wage, $8.00 an hour as opposed to the $6.75 usually offered because he is a quick learner and a good worker.
